Halloween

I've always loved Halloween since I was a little girl.  We would have Sloppy Joes for dinner and then my dad would take me trick-or-treating all over the neighborhood and we would be freezing by the time we got back home.  Mom would be waiting there with hot apple cider.  Honestly it was probably my favorite holiday growing up.

Jordan and I figured Kail would be too little to really enjoy the holiday this year, but we thought we would have some fun and dress him up.  At first Jordan found this adorable monster custom, Which would have also gone with his birthday party, but when it arrived it was the size of a 4 year old.  So we had to take it back and they didn't have one in his size so, he got to be a pirate, Captain Sticky Pants to be exact.

Our ward had a trunk-or-treat event back on October 22nd, and I worried because Kail seemed to hate wearing his costume.  He kept tugging at his cravat and down right refused to wear the hat (which we put on him in the store when we bought the thing and he didn't care one wit about wearing).  We gave him a binkie with a mustache but he just didn't want to put it in his mouth.  He did discover chocolate covered rice crispy treats though and had a good time walking around the church entryway.  

Halloween came and his daycare included the babies in their parade.  Jordan and I both got off work early so we could go have some fun with him.  This time I decided to try some makeup on him.  I personally love the skull and cross bones (the sticker didn't require any of my questionable art skills on a wiggling annoyed little boy).  Jordan and I both think it really made his custom better.  The parade didn't take long but it was fun to see all the little kids in their costumes.

The parade wore Kail out, and just moments after it finished he was out for the count. 

And he stayed out long enough that mom and dad were able to have dinner and carve a pumpkin.

Once he woke up I fed him his favorite meal of rice and beans and then the kids started to arrive.

At this point two of Kail's favorite things in the world got combined, outside and other kids.  We usually sit out on our stairs so that the little kids don't have to climb all of our cement stairs in their ill-fitting costumes.  I figured if it was warm enough (which it wasn't in my opinion) Kail could sit outside and hand out candy with us.  Silly to take him trick-or-treating when he can't/shouldn't be eating candy anyway.  But as soon as he realized all the other kids were walking around the neighborhood he went nuts.  So like the over indulgent parents that we are, Jordan wrapped him up in a blanket and took him around the block in the stroller.  I got to listen to him yell in excitement to the other kids from all the way down the block.  Every once in a while Jordan would swing by the house thinking that Kail was cold and would want to be done, but he clearly just wanted to keep going so Jordan was a sport and just kept going.

It was pretty dark before Kail finally decided it would be kind of OK 

if we were done.  He would have kept going if we had wanted him too.

We then finished watching Hocus Pocus (Jordan got it as he thought it would be a fun kid friendly halloween movie) and Kail smushed some candy bars  . . and we may have fed him a few as well.  (Come on its Halloween, you can't not give him any candy).  As far as first Halloweens go, I think he had fun.  And if he was this excited this year, I'm a little afraid of next year.

Sorry I have not posted for a while, we got busy, doing nothing in particular at all.  Halloween and Kail's first birthday are coming up soon so I should have more posts on fun stuff soon.  So just to tide you over here are some random pictures and videos:

Bye Bye Helmet Baby!

That's right, we are VERY excited to announce that Kail graduated from his helmet yesterday with a cephalic ratio of 87.  We are so very excited!

When I took him into day care today they didn't recognize him without his helmet, and then unsurprisingly decided that he is Jordan's clone.

A Very Busy Week

This weekend was especially busy for our little man.  It started out Friday morning with a trip to Davis Hospital.  Since Kail was about 3 months old he has been doing this strange gasping thing when he has a cold or gets overly excited, or is laying down.  Its a very loud scary noise but right after he does it he acts fine.  We have seen the doctor several times for it, he has been on antacids in case it was reflex, and inhaler encase it was asthma and antibiotics encase it was an infection but nothing has affected the noise at all.  So we made an appointment with an ear nose and throat doctor and after seeing him and going over his records the doctor decided to scope his airway.  And this led us to the hospital last Friday.  Kail was a very patient for not being allowed to eat in the morning.  We got him dressed and they gave hima little teddy bear.  Then they knocked him out for about 15 min with a little gas and after scoping his throat decided he has an "immature airway"  meaning the flap in your throat that shifts when you breath vs eat is "floppy" and makes noise when its in the wrong position. The Dr says he will grow out of it, and its nothing to worry about.  In any case it was stressful for all of us, but we are happy Kail doesn't have to have surgery or an asthma inhaler.  We felt bad for making him wait to eat in the morning so we took him to his favorite restraint and he got to make a mess with some eggs, hash-browns and pancakes.

The next morning Kail had his first dentist apt.  He has 6 teeth now.  It ended up just being a lot of waiting around to have the dentist open his mouth look at his teeth and then tell us to come back next year, but we did our due diligence.

And then it was off to the Peach Day's car show in Brigham City.  This was Kails first of what is sure to be many, many car shows.   Kail liked dancing to the music they were playing over the loud speaker, and we got to see some pretty cool cars, have a picnic lunch and get a little sun and fresh air.

My new tricks

I find it fascinating to see what new tricks Kail will pick up in very short amounts of time.  Last weekend he decided to begin pulling himself up on EVERYTHING (couches, the cat tree, the elliptical, the trash can, the wall, and our pants just to name a few).  He also discovered the ability to push objects around the house.  His favorite was the recycle bin.  He also started clapping for himself after preforming one of these new tricks.  So he stands up, sits down and then claps.  He pushes something around the room, then stops and claps.  Unfortunately I can't seem to get a picture or video of the clapping because every time I take my phone out to get the picture he loses interest in what he is doing and just goes for my phone.  If you notice he has a small ball in his hand in several of these pictures.  Its a cat toy, but Kail LOVES his ball.  He will chase it all over the house, and put it high places so he can sit down and then stand up to get it back.

Kail has also gotten several more teeth, three of his top teeth have broken through.  Due to this we decided it was time to start brushing his teeth.  As the bottle of milk right before bed defeats the purpose of bushing his teeth before bed we have had to change the order of his bed time routine.  I thought this was going to be a lot worse then it turned out to be, thankfully Kail is so patient with his mom and dad.  So now right before bed we do a story to help him calm down.  As you can see he likes reading with daddy.

To avoid the recycle bin mess we got him a new toy to push around.

On the Move

As I've said before Kail LOVES to move and now that he is crawling at full speed there is no more watching TV for mom and dad while he plays.  Instead he insists on getting into everything and loves it when we chase him down the hall.  One of his new favorite toys is the gate that blocks the stairs, he likes to shake it.  He has also become fascinated with the vacuum and will follow me around the house and watch me clean, which I actually enjoy as I can now clean without him freaking out that I left the room.  It was nice to have him contained but its also a lot of fun learning new games.

Kail's First Picnic
