Toddler

I am aware that the definition of a toddler is a child who is just learning to walk and as Kail has been walking for two months now he has been a toddler for awhile but in the last two weeks or so it has truly become official.

First of all Kail was moved from the "Baby Bugs Room" to the "Toddler Room" at day care.  This has come with a number of changes.  First of all, mommy doesn't get random picture texts anymore.☹  Second we have more scheduled nap times instead of just whenever we decide to crash.  We actually like this as it seems to be helping Kail sleep better at night. (Although we are STILL waking up at least once a night, Kail seems to get stuffed up and cant breath so mom has to clean out his nose and change his diaper and he goes right back to sleep).  Kail now sleeps on a cot on the floor instead of in a crib. Kail rolls a lot in his sleep so we were a little worried at first but its only about a half inch off the floor and they tell me he does really well and that unlike most of the transitioning babies he hasn't had a problem switching.  Now mommy is wondering when she is supposed to move to a toddler bed at home.  And finally we now sit at a table for meals with the other kids instead of a high chair.  At first this caused a problem at home as Kail didn't want to sit in his highchair at home anymore and gets mad when he gets restrained in the chair vs being able to sit at a table on his own.  After a few days though he has accepted that we still have a high chair at home.  I love watching him eat at the table though, they have even taught him that he has to ask to get up.  Then they wash hands and face and can go play again.  Its so dang cute!  Mommy has to take pictures when Kail can't see or he gets excited about coming home, so sorry its of the back of his head.

Kail also LOVES to walk out of Day Care instead of getting carried.  This means we have to go give hugs and say goodbye to every single teacher.  And I mean even the teachers who don't teach him and never have.  If he sees them he has to hug them . . . it would be annoying if it wasn't so dang cute.  I was picking him up the other day and I was carrying him, a teacher walked up to say goodbye and immediately looks at me in shock and says "whats wrong?"  I got confused as Kail was fine and she said "he is not smiling and giggling" . . . I look around at the other teachers and say "He's fine, he doesn't ALWAYS smile," and they looked at me like was crazy and simultaneously say "yes he does". . . . I guess unless he has just gotten bit he always smiles there . . . and that would be the last change due to the toddler room.  Toddlers are more active and angry I guess then babies.  Kail is not used to giving up toys to bigger kids so sadly he gets bit a lot.  I am very proud to say though that I have not once gotten a report that he has bit or hit another kid . . . . yet.

Kail is starting to say words we can understand, and is definitely understanding what we are saying.  He has understood "No Touch" for awhile now, it saved our Christmas tree.  As stated above Kail has to ask to get up from the table.  Daycare does sign language so the teacher signs "All done?" and he says "ya". and then in the tub yesterday he looked at us and I swear he said "all done" and then tried to get out of the tub.   He is also showing other signs of understanding what people are saying too, while dropping him off last week he was trying to open their fridge and the teacher asked if he wanted gram crackers before breakfast and I swear he said "ya" and then tried to climb into the highchair. (Because we drop off before the toddler teachers arrive he still goes to the baby room first thing in the morning.)  I think I'm stating to understand when he is asking for his water but that word seems to change slightly every time he says it.  He DEFINITELY says "Kitty!", and then waves cat toys at the cats and chases them around. (Poor cats).  Of course he also yells this at the window when I can't see any cats out there. And if you say "Night Night to the Light" he waves at his light and then lays down for a nap or bed time.  Everyone is Dadadada but does say just "Dada" every single time he runs to Jordan, Mama however seems to only be when he is upset, usually at me.  So for example I imagine he is saying "Mama stop wiping my nose!!!" but as he can only say Mama in that sentence I just get "MAMAMAMA!!!!" and then we throw ourselves down and have a fit.  In any case we are excited that Kail looks like he will be talking any day now.

Just for fun we decided to take Friday the 13th off and go have some fun as a family.  So I finally convinced Jordan to let me get Kails hair cut.  I was worried because form what I understand most little kids don't like getting their haircut.  But of course Kail was a little trouper and had no troubles at all.  We were warned that cutting his hair would make him look older and it really does.  He looks like a little boy rather then a baby now!

He was very confused on what was wrong with the little boy in the chair next to him who would not stop crying.

Saturday we decided to have some more fun so we went to IHop for breakfast.

And then we went to the Auto Expo and played in all the cars.

My baby is getting so grownup!

Christmas

Christmas was a new experience for mom and dad this year.  We started off Christmas Eve up by going for a walk.  It was still a little warm if raining slightly. (Yes that is grass in the background).

Then we headed up to Grandma and Grandpa Paces house. Where we got to eat Grandma Paces fabulous chicken soup and play with our cousins.

Then it was off for a stop at Grandma Jackie and Grandpa Larry's.  Where we got more presents and got to eat a bunch of chocolate that mom probably should not be feeding him, but he was just so excited about it.

Yes that is a pink microphone in his hand he refused to give it up for anything but the chocolate dump truck Grandma gave him.

That night we went to bed about 11:00 to grass and woke up Christmas morning to about 8 inches of snow.  Which the cats loved.

I think from the pictures and video's you will agree Kail had a fun Christmas.

And I know this Blog is about Kail but Daddy did such a good job on Mommy's Christmas that I have to share.  He got me a "mothers ring"  I'm not a big fan of Kails birthstone (yellow makes me look ill) so he got me one to match Kail's eyes instead.  I love it.

Kail was so excited by Christmas that he decided not to take a nap until 1:00.  Mom and Dad were grateful when he finally decided to sleep because we had a ton of snow to shovel.  Poor Daddy had to do most of it by himself because we didn't know if Kail would ever go down.

Then later that day we had Christmas dinner at Grandma Jackie and Grandpa Larry's.  Where we got to play some more with Great Aunt Luise's family again and even aunt JaNae came so we got to play with Nora our cousin. (Mommy is sorry she was having fun and didn't take enough pictures, a big thank you to our . . . 2nd cousin? Rachel for keeping Kail from eating dog food.)

By the time we got home again from all the Christmas parties, Kail was just a little bit tired.

The next day We jumped in the car and headed for Aunt JaNae and Uncle Nates house for one more Christmas party.  They ended up having a really cool Christmas toy which they let Kail play with.  Daddy probably had just as much fun playing with it as Kail did.

Grandma Max gave us a new book and a boom box which we love to dance too and daddy got some birthday presents too.

We had so much fun with everyone!
Thank you all for making Christmas so special for our little one.
