Bye Bye Helmet Baby!

That's right, we are VERY excited to announce that Kail graduated from his helmet yesterday with a cephalic ratio of 87.  We are so very excited!

When I took him into day care today they didn't recognize him without his helmet, and then unsurprisingly decided that he is Jordan's clone.

A Very Busy Week

This weekend was especially busy for our little man.  It started out Friday morning with a trip to Davis Hospital.  Since Kail was about 3 months old he has been doing this strange gasping thing when he has a cold or gets overly excited, or is laying down.  Its a very loud scary noise but right after he does it he acts fine.  We have seen the doctor several times for it, he has been on antacids in case it was reflex, and inhaler encase it was asthma and antibiotics encase it was an infection but nothing has affected the noise at all.  So we made an appointment with an ear nose and throat doctor and after seeing him and going over his records the doctor decided to scope his airway.  And this led us to the hospital last Friday.  Kail was a very patient for not being allowed to eat in the morning.  We got him dressed and they gave hima little teddy bear.  Then they knocked him out for about 15 min with a little gas and after scoping his throat decided he has an "immature airway"  meaning the flap in your throat that shifts when you breath vs eat is "floppy" and makes noise when its in the wrong position. The Dr says he will grow out of it, and its nothing to worry about.  In any case it was stressful for all of us, but we are happy Kail doesn't have to have surgery or an asthma inhaler.  We felt bad for making him wait to eat in the morning so we took him to his favorite restraint and he got to make a mess with some eggs, hash-browns and pancakes.

The next morning Kail had his first dentist apt.  He has 6 teeth now.  It ended up just being a lot of waiting around to have the dentist open his mouth look at his teeth and then tell us to come back next year, but we did our due diligence.

And then it was off to the Peach Day's car show in Brigham City.  This was Kails first of what is sure to be many, many car shows.   Kail liked dancing to the music they were playing over the loud speaker, and we got to see some pretty cool cars, have a picnic lunch and get a little sun and fresh air.

My new tricks

I find it fascinating to see what new tricks Kail will pick up in very short amounts of time.  Last weekend he decided to begin pulling himself up on EVERYTHING (couches, the cat tree, the elliptical, the trash can, the wall, and our pants just to name a few).  He also discovered the ability to push objects around the house.  His favorite was the recycle bin.  He also started clapping for himself after preforming one of these new tricks.  So he stands up, sits down and then claps.  He pushes something around the room, then stops and claps.  Unfortunately I can't seem to get a picture or video of the clapping because every time I take my phone out to get the picture he loses interest in what he is doing and just goes for my phone.  If you notice he has a small ball in his hand in several of these pictures.  Its a cat toy, but Kail LOVES his ball.  He will chase it all over the house, and put it high places so he can sit down and then stand up to get it back.

Kail has also gotten several more teeth, three of his top teeth have broken through.  Due to this we decided it was time to start brushing his teeth.  As the bottle of milk right before bed defeats the purpose of bushing his teeth before bed we have had to change the order of his bed time routine.  I thought this was going to be a lot worse then it turned out to be, thankfully Kail is so patient with his mom and dad.  So now right before bed we do a story to help him calm down.  As you can see he likes reading with daddy.

To avoid the recycle bin mess we got him a new toy to push around.

On the Move

As I've said before Kail LOVES to move and now that he is crawling at full speed there is no more watching TV for mom and dad while he plays.  Instead he insists on getting into everything and loves it when we chase him down the hall.  One of his new favorite toys is the gate that blocks the stairs, he likes to shake it.  He has also become fascinated with the vacuum and will follow me around the house and watch me clean, which I actually enjoy as I can now clean without him freaking out that I left the room.  It was nice to have him contained but its also a lot of fun learning new games.

Kail's First Picnic

We decided to do a Sunday picnic at the park.  Kail loves to be outside.

Great Grandpa Pace

My grandfather, Kail's great grandpa passed away.  We were very grateful to be able to spend time with family to celebrate his life.  And we were very grateful that Kail was such a patient little boy throughout the service.

Dwayne Milton Pace passed away at age 95 on July 12, 2016 at his home in Wanship, Utah of causes related to his advanced age.  The youngest child of Ellen Harriet Tree and James Edwin Pace, he was born in Hoytsville, Utah on September 4, 1920.  He grew up on a dairy farm with his siblings; Julia, Harvey, Ralph, Henry, and Angus.  After graduating from North Summit High School he served a mission in southern California.  After his mission he enlisted in the Navy during WWII and was mostly in the Philippines for two years.  When the war ended he attended BYU where he fell in love with Joan Jensen from Huntsville, Utah.  They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 19, 1948.  They lived in Wanship and were the parents of six children; Dennis, Loyal, Kevin, Lorna, Nolan, and Eric.
Dwayne worked as a dairy farmer in partnership with his brother, Angus.  Dwayne retired from farming in 1979 at the age of fifty-nine.  Dwayne and Joan went on several missions; Dulce New Mexico, Manila Philippines Temple, Atlanta Georgia Temple, Temple Square, and the Conference Center in Salt Lake.  They also served for over twenty-five years in the Ogden Temple as temple ordinance workers.  His daughter, Lorna, and all of his siblings have preceded him in death.  Currently, Dwayne and Joan have thirty-six grandchildren and sixty-five great grandchildren.  
Dwayne leaves a legacy of kindness, decency, hard work, and faith.  His actions always spoke louder than his words.  He loved Joan with constant devotion and she gave great care to him during his last months at their home.  His whole life was spent giving to his family, church, community, and the world.  God blessed him with a long and grand life.  He is a noble person, a great example, and is loved by so many.   
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Wanship Ward Chapel.  A viewing will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM prior to the funeral.  Interment will be at the Wanship Cemetery.

I would also like to mention that we said goodbye to Grandma Jackie's father Bob  the same week as well.  I didn't get any picture of the service but it was a really nice one.  We love you Grandma Jackie and are so sorry for your loss.

3 Month Helmet Update

We got "a little" rounder this month, but we are still not there.  Sadly we have at least one more if not two more months in this blasted helmet.  We will admit, all three of us are getting pretty fed up with the stinky little thing.  That being said, we are glad we chose to use it as you can clearly see there has been a drastic improvement from the first picture to the last.

Our Happy Little Boy

As long as we are on the move, Kail is a very happy little boy.  He really does get bored easily though.  Its worth the smiles to keep active though.

This last week I was able to spend a couple of days home with him.  We got to go for a lot of walks around the block and at Walmart to try and stay active.  We even went to eat lunch by the fountain at Farmington Station.  It was a really nice outing.

The Cough, The Rash, and the Hospital

Due to Kail going to Day Care, he gets sick pretty often,  About a week after he got his helmet he came down with a nasty cough.  We saw his doctor for his six month apt not long after and she thought we would just wait it out a bit, with a humidifier, and warm baths and such.  Three weeks later he wasn't getting better so I took him in again, again they said we should just wait it out, but they wanted to see him again in two weeks.  So AGAIN I took him in (so he has had the cough for about 6 weeks at this point) this time they decided to start him on an inhaler and some Zantac (they thought acid might be making it worse).  A week later not only was he not any better but Jordan and I decided he was actually getting worse as he was now gasping in the middle of coughing.  So I called the doctor again and they called me in some Amoxicillin.  Three days after starting the Amoxicillin Day Care called me about 1:00.  They had noticed a slight rash on his cheeks in the morning but it was very faint.  It had now spread to his arms and legs and although it was faint there, his face was swelling and the rash was now blood red. This picture doesn't do it justice, trust me the rash looked bad.

 My immediate thought was that he is allergic to Penicillin, although I quickly learned that that rash usually starts on the chest and he had nothing on his chest or back .  So I called the Dr and made an apt to come right in.  Its always a fun visit when the Dr says "That's just SO weird" about 20 times, and finishes the visit with, "I need you to take him to Primary Children's tonight and get a full blood work up".  I kept asking "Isn't this just the Ampicillin?" and he kept saying "if it is, its not progressing like normal."  and my favorite line "I don't want to freak you out, but I want you to go over as soon as possible so we can get the results tonight and we will call you asap just encase he needs to stay at the hospital. If he doesn't stay at the hospital I need to see him again tomorrow."  So we go pick up Jordan and head over to Primary Children's hospital.  Kail had to get blood drawn so they had Jordan hold him and had another nurse there to help hold him so he did flail around the with needle, but our little trooper never even flinched.  then we headed down to the suction clinic where they had to stick a Q-tip up his nose.  The tech had me sit down with him to hold him because 'they really don't like this", and again Kail just sat there like nothing happened (this time is more likely because i suck out his nose so often he just doesn't care anymore).

Kail's Dr called us about a half hour later to tell us that all the results came back normal, and he didn't have the measles. . . . well I guess its good he didn't have the measles i didn't realize that what we were thinking he had. So we went back to the Dr the next day.  At this point I'm convinced its a reaction to the amoxicillin, but the Dr keeps insisting its not and he wants me to start him back on it.  Oh and we have no idea what the rash was . . . .  Jordan and I decided to wait an extra day to let the rash subside more, so that when it came back we could prove it was the amoxicillin . . . . the thing is, it didn't come back.  So I started thinking, we went on a walk the night before and it was hot . . . ya bet it was heat rash although again that is usually were the kid has clothes and this was everywhere he didn't.  As we can't know for sure what happened that is what we have decided,.  Probably just the first sign that our little strawberry blond is going to have an adversarial relationship with the sun.

And on a final happy note, the antibiotics finally got rid of his cough.
