Kail's First Easter

I have to admit, I'm a slacker mom and didn't do an Easter basket for Kail this year, OK lets face it I didn't do Easter at all this year.  Which is why I'm so grateful for involved grandparents because Grandma Jackie and Grandpa Larry brought Kail an Easter basket full of adorable clothes and toys. Its hard to see in the shots I got but his shirt says "I am a Jedi, like my father before me."  And there is this baseball hat that is so freaking cute! More pictures of all that to come I'm sure.  And then Great grandma Hatch did an Easter hunt for us.  Yea! we love you all for making holidays special!

For Easter weekend we went down to Gunnison like we usually do, but this was a bit different as it was Kail's first night away from home.  We were hoping he would sleep in the car for most of the ride, but instead he decided to spend the ride down wide awake.  We really are lucky he is such a good baby, even though he was wide awake and its a long drive for him, he didn't fuss at all, just sat in his chair and played with his toys or stared out the window.

When we got there I began cleaning up some fruit for JaNae's baby shower and Jordan took care of Kail.  We quickly realized we had made a big mistake by leaving his jumper at home.  Kail is just too heavy to hold ALL the time, so while I worked Jordan decided to go to the store and find something we could put Kail in to keep him off his head.  I expected a jumper or a bumpo or something of that nature.  To my surprise, Jordan came back with a cooler. . . . yes you read that right a food cooler.  When he pulled up and I went out to go help, he showed me what he had bought.  I of course thought he was joking and opened the other car doors to see what else he had, but no he was serious.  And even more to my surprise it actually worked out well.

We then went over to Aunt Annette's house and had a nice baby shower for JaNae/Easter lunch.

After the shower Jordan took Kail out to meet the geese.  

We spent the rest of the day hanging out and visiting.  

The next morning we made our traditional "Grandpa's eggs" breakfast which includes Grandma's amazing waffles. After which Grandma put on an Easter hunt for us.  This year we did it in the house which was good because it was a bit cold outside.  Kail got to hang out with grandma Max while the rest of us tracked down all of Grandma's prizes.  Grandma always makes Easter in Gunnison so much fun, even for her fully adult grandchildren.

Kail was so excited by everything going on that he really didn't want to take any naps, but he finally crashed as we were getting ready to go home, and slept almost the entire drive home.

"Solid" Food

At Kails 4 month doctor appointment we were told we should probably start feeding him solid food.  I'm not sure why they call it solid as its pureed but in any case.  The doctor told us to start him out on vegetables so that he would eat them as well as the sweater fruits.  So we were mean and started him on peas.  He did pretty good for his first time, although he was quite a bit fussier then the video suggests, and pees are definitely not his favorite.

Kails First Art Project

One thing I do think is adorable about our day care is that even though Kail is only 4 months old, they do art projects with him.  They sent home his first one.

The Jumper

Kail loves saucer toys.  In my previous post we talked about how much he loves them.  He has one at home and one at daycare and in both he kept throwing himself around trying to jump, so we decided to get a jumper one as well and it has been worth every penny.  He will jump and jump and jump and even when he starts fussing . . . he continues to jump.  This not only frees up Jordan and I but is hilarious to watch.

Daddy Time

Kail LOVES to sit and play video games with his daddy.

He is quite the daddies boy. We are very glad we kept our old video game system as we are pretty sure as soon as he has the coordination to hold the controller on his own, he will be stealing it from daddy.

Tummy Time & Rolling Over

While I was home the other day Kail had a massive diaper blowout which resulted in him being naked except for a diaper in his crib while I cleaned up.  I walked away to put some clothes in the washer and when i came back I found  him on his tummy instead of his back.

I was SO glad I had him in the crib instead of on the changing table or something.  So I pulled him away from the crib wall and we ended up having some fun tummy time.  Thank you Jackie for the wonderful colorful blanket he loves looking at all the different fabric squares.

1/30/16 - The Baby Blessing

We got to give Kail his baby blessing at our ward on January 30th 2015.  It was the day after his first day of day care and my first day back at work so it was a busy week.  We were so surprised at how many people were not only able to make it but wanted to.  We had people drive hours to join us for this 5 min blessing and it was great to have so many family members there to support Kail and us.  When we first arrived we thought we would be in the Relief Society room but it turned out there was a baptism in there which had forgotten to book the room.  We ended up in close quarters in the young women's room, but it ended up working well as we were allowed to have the refreshments in the same room as the blessing.

Jordan gave a wonderful blessing, he touched on everything I could have asked for and more.  I am so grateful he was able to do this for our son.  I'm told that at the end of the blessing when everyone opened their eyes Kail had a huge grin on his face form ear to ear.  It was a great day.

Day Care

We would really love it if one of us could be home with Kail all the time but day care for us is a necessary evil.  That being said we think we found a good one in Kid Care.  Luckily enough it is super close to home so both Jordan and I can pick him up or drop him off.  So far I've been the one to drop him off and 90% of the time Jordan gets to pick him up.  The building was built just a few years ago as a daycare so the facility is really nice, although more parking durring pickup time would be very helpful. 



Kail is usually the first baby to arrive at day care in the morning so I get to sit with him for a few minutes every morning while Makenzie gets set up and then he gets some one on one attention with Makenzie, who is not his normal teacher but she watches the room until the regulars show up. 

Kail really likes Makenzie and will usually give her a big grin first thing.  He loves to play in the exasaucer they have there, which I'm sure is in large part because of the one my sister Laura so kindly gave us. 

Many of the toys on both resemble each other and he really gets into it.

 They also tell us he loves to get read too, watch the mobiles and he likes tummy time.  We are a bit confused on the last one as he hates it when we do tummy time, it’s possible we are doing it wrong, but if they can get him to like it more power to them.

The First Three Months

Kail Vern Mitton was born November 6th 2015 at 8 lbs 11oz and 21 inches long.  He was two weeks overdue so we were very anxious for him to arrive.  We had to be induced so that morning we arrived at LDS Hospital at about 7:30 AM.  I got all hooked up and the drugs started about 8:00 AM.  A little over an hour later a doctor arrived to check on our status and decided to break my water.  Just after my water was broken I really began to feel the contractions which were now just about a minute apart, so at this point we decided to get the epidural.  Just after getting the epidural my doctor came in said we were progressing quickly and I could have started pushing at this point but she wanted the contractions to do some of the work for us, so she told me to try and take a nap and she would be back in a couple of hrs or when I started feeling pressure.  So I took a nap and Jordan went to get some food with his dad.  About an hour and a half later a nurse came in to check on me and became alarmed that I hadn't called them about the pressure, but I told her I hadn't had any.  So the nurses had me start pushing and called for my doctor.  Unfortunately at this point my worst nightmare came true, I had suffered from some bad acid in my 3rd trimester and it caused me to throw up while pushing, but that was quickly over and we were back to business.  About 20 min later they told me to stop pushing as my doctor had not arrived yet and they were afraid Kail might come before she did.  At this point my epidural had mostly warn off, which was both a blessing because the monitor wasn't really picking up my contractions so I had to tell them when I was having one, and a curse as while we waited for the doctor I wasn't able to push.  My doctor arrived and about 20 min later around 4:00 PM he arrived.  I ended up on some oxygen because they registered that Kail was under stress when I pushed and I'm afraid I can't remember everything because everything got very fuzzy.  Jordan tells me they put Kail on my chest and cleaned him up a bit, I remember them taking him over to the health check center to make sure everything was ok and Jordan's sister JaNae called at this point.  I could hear her voice and I was so out of it I thought she was in the room.  Not long after they asked me to try to go to the bathroom and then it was off to the recovery room.  This is when I start remembering things and I got to hold Kail while they wheeled me to the next room.  Kail stayed in the room with us most of the time in a clear plastic bassinet.  I ended up hemorrhaging that night and scared Jordan and a bunch of nurses,  The blood loss made it so I couldn't get out of bed because i couldn't move my legs without my hands so Jordan got to take care of Kail while we were in the hospital.  I don't think I changed a single diaper for the first 4 days.  The last night in the hospital they finaly let us bath him.  As I could barley stand, Jordan got to do all the work and ended up getting peed on three times.  On the thrid day, the last day in the hospital they finally gave me a blood transfusion and right after the second bag I was so much better I was able to get up shower and get dressed all by myself and then I was actually able to walk out of the hospital.  He was such a cute little thing and barely cried the entire time we were in the hospital.

When he was 5 days old we took him to get some photo's done.  We think they turned out really nice.

Over the next three months I was able to stay home and take care of him.  Jordan got to take off about 14 days so he was able to spend a few days every week home with us.  Kail seemed to get bigger everyday and by the time I went back to work he was rounding 16 lbs.  We will admit he spent most of the first few weeks in just a diaper and blankets.

He loved to sleep with both his arms above his head.

During the first two months Jordan turned 35 and we got to go see Star Wars on his birthday.  Kail had his first baby sitting experience thanks to Grandpa Larry and Grandma Jackie.

Kail slowly became more alert to his surroundings and started loving his swing and reaching for his toys.

He had his first Christmas.

He found his thumb and started sleeping in his crib.

He slept a lot.

And smiled a lot. 

He got to go meet Great Grandma & Grandpa Pace and contrary to the pictures I got, he giggled at them both the whole time.

He soon began to lift his head during tummy time, and he loved to sit up, and cuddle with his elephant in his swing.
